Cooking with my kids is one of my favorite things to do with them. On days when we have some time, we head into the kitchen to bake something together. We pour over cookbooks, decide what to make, and make sure that we have all of the ingredients. There are plenty of opportunities for everyone to do a job. They love to measure, pour, count and stir. By spending time in the kitchen, you are teaching your children what cooking is all about. It is rewarding for all of us.

Cookies are a great choice for kids. They are easy to make, don’t take a long time, and what kid doesn’t like a cookie? You can up the ante by making a cookie bowl that is the the perfect vehicle for an ice cream sundae.

When I was kid, my mom used to make her Magic Sauce on special occasions. I thought that it truly was magical. The warm sauce would hit the cold ice cream and form a protective barrier that you needed to break with your spoon. For years, I thought that it was some complicated recipe that made this magic, but really it is a bag of chocolate chips and a stick of butter. Used together, they are magical ingredients.
