The idea of camping is way more appealing than the actual act, I think. Romantic expectations of lying under the stars, being one with nature, and roasting marshmallows around the camp fire are usually met with clouds of mosquitos, unexpected storms, and a missing tent pole, in my experience.

Yes, if I want a taste of the outdoors, and the classic campfire treat S’Mores, I’m going to go ahead and get it at home with S’Mores French Toast. Hearty bread is dunked in an eggy batter, coated in crunchy graham cracker crumbs, then pan fried in a skillet. Sweet mini marshmallows and chocolate chips are sprinkled on top before the slices are popped under the broiler to toast and melt.

Put the bug spray away, and get a taste of the outdoors at home with S’Mores French Toast!

S’Mores French Toast

Serves 3

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons butter, divided
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
6 pieces hearty bread (cottage or French)
1 cup graham cracker crumbs
1 cup mini marshmallows
2 tablespoons mini chocolate chips

Directions:

Place an oven rack at the top of the oven and preheat the broiler to high. Melt 1 1/2 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over medium heat. In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs and milk. Spread graham cracker crumbs on a separate shallow dish.

Dip each piece of bread in the egg and milk mixture; then coat both sides well in graham cracker crumbs. Place into the hot skillet and cook until one side is golden brown, then flip and cook until the other side is golden brown. Remove to a baking sheet and cover with foil to keep warm. Melt remaining butter in the skillet, as needed, and repeat the process with the remaining bread slices.

Divide mini marshmallows and chocolate chips evenly on top of the cooked French toast, then place under the broiler until marshmallows are golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes. Serve immediately.

    I only cook with real butter, and can eat European style butter by it’s self. Yum

    I only use real butter, I could eat European butter by it’s self. The reason I only use real butter is my homeopathic Dr. Told me to only eat foods close to their natural source,,,chemically and or genetically modified foods are always worse for you! Natural fats are easily used and digested by the body.
