The simple sauce on this pasta dish gets its big flavors from two simple ingredients: REAL Butter and parmesan cheese! Toss in some bacon and mushrooms and it’s a weeknight dinner that packs a lot of punch.

Cacio e Pepe with Mushrooms & Bacon

Total Time: 25 minutes

Yield: 4 servings

Cacio e Pepe with Mushrooms & Bacon


  • 8 ounces dry spaghetti pasta
  • 3 strips of smoked bacon, chopped into ½-inch pieces
  • 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 3/4 cup shaved parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper


  1. Cook spaghetti according to package instructions. Reserve 2/3 cup of pasta water and discard the rest.
  2. Add bacon to large nonstick skillet and cook 5-7 minutes over medium heat (should still be tender, not crisp).
  3. Add mushrooms and butter to pan and stir over medium heat 3-4 minutes until mushrooms are tender.
  4. Add spaghetti to pan and stir in reserved pasta water and shaved parmesan cheese. Continue to stir over medium-low heat until cheese is melted and spaghetti is hot throughout. Top with freshly cracked black pepper and serve.
