Every year at Halloween, most of us find ourselves with an abundance of candy. If you’re looking for something to do with some of that excess, these bars are just the trick.

Using chopped candy bars instead of chocolate chips or nuts makes for a bit of a twist on traditional blondies. Pick out just one kind of candy bar, or use a variety to make every bite a little different.

Makes 16 (2-inch) bars

Ingredients:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour, divided
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups candy bars, chopped (about 10-12 miniature candy bars)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease an 8-inch square baking pan.

Stir together melted butter and brown sugar. Add egg and vanilla, and mix until well-blended.

In a small bowl, toss chopped candy bars with about 1/4 cup flour. Set aside.

Add remaining flour, baking powder and salt to butter/sugar mixture. Stir just until combined. Stir in chopped candy bars.

Transfer batter to prepared pan. Bake 28-32 minutes, or until a pick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool completely in pan before cutting into bars.

Oh my gosh! These were amazing! I substituted a mix of milk, semi-sweet, white, and peanut butter chips instead of Halloween candy and my family gobbled them up in no time. Had to make another batch the next day!!
