Buttery Apple Spice Mug Cake

This comforting apple dessert is ready in less than 10 minutes – No oven necessary (but you will need a microwave)! Grab a large mug and follow these steps for a decadent apple spice cake in no time. Real butter creates a fluffy, moist and rich mug cake. Make sure to use salted butter to cut through the sweetness.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 to 1/2 apple, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons salted butter
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon apple pie spice, divided (or pumpkin pie spice)
  • Garnish: caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream

Instructions

Step 1

In a microwave-safe large mug, add 1/2 of the apple slices, 1/2 tablespoon salted butter, 1/2 tablespoon brown sugar, and 1/8 teaspoon apple pie spice. Microwave for 30 seconds to soften the apples.

Step 2

In a small bowl, melt 2 tablespoons of salted butter in the microwave. Mix in 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, the milk, and the vanilla extract until combined.

Step 3

To the same bowl, add the flour, baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon apple pie spice. Mix until combined. Pour the batter over the apples in the mug.

Step 4

Add the remaining apple slices on top of the batter in the mug and sprinkle with 1/2 tablespoon brown sugar and 1/8 teaspoon apple pie spice. Top with 1/2 tablespoon of salted butter.

Step 5

Microwave the mug for 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes, or until the cake has puffed up and set.

Step 6

Garnish with a drizzle of caramel sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
