Ingredients

  • 1 batch gingerbread cookies
  • 1 batch royal icing
  • House-shape cookie cutter
  • Small round cookie cutter (about 1-1/4”)
  • 15-second count royal icing in yellow, light pink, light blue, dark blue, light green, dark pink and white (test the consistency by taking a spoonful of icing out of the bowl and dropping it back in. It should take about 15 seconds for the icing to be completely smooth)
  • 12” decorating bags
  • Decorating tip number 1, 2 and 3
  • Couplers
  • Scriber needle or toothpick
  • Square-tip brush

Instructions

Step 1

Cut cookies from a chilled sheet of gingerbread dough using a house-shape cutter and a small round cookie cutter.

Step 2

Bake and cool cookies according to the recipe instructions.

Step 3

Ice the windows with yellow 15-second count royal icing and a decorating tip 2. Use a scriber needle or toothpick to help shape the icing.

Step 4

Outline the door using light blue 15-second count royal icing and a decorating tip 2. Apply a small amount of icing inside the outline, leaving a space for a window. Use a square-tip brush to spread the icing and add texture. Use the scriber needle or toothpick to draw wooden planks in the icing.

Step 5

Fill in the window in the door with yellow 15-second count royal icing and a decorating tip 2. Use the scriber needle or toothpick to help shape the icing.

Step 6

Fill in the rest of the cookie with light pink 15-second count royal icing with a decorating tip 3. Use the scriber needle or toothpick to evenly distribute the icing. Allow the icing to dry about 2 hours.

Step 7

Ice a small circle toward the top of the cookie with white 15-second count royal icing and a decorating tip 2. Use the scriber needle or toothpick to help shape the icing. Apply 4 small dots of dark pink 15-second count royal icing with a decorating tip 2. Use the scriber needle or tooth pick to swirl the colors.

Step 8

Pipe a ring of light green 15-second count royal icing with a decorating tip 2. Use the scriber needle or toothpick to drag the icing into small points all the way around, inside and outside the ring.

Step 9

Outline the windows with light blue 15-second count royal icing and a decorating tip 1. Outline the door with white 15-second count royal icing and a decorating tip 1.

Step 10

Add a door handle with dark pink 15-second count royal icing and a decorating tip 2.

Step 11

Pipe snow on the roof and on the window sills with white 15-second count royal icing and a decorating tip 2.

Step 12

Pipe trees under the windows using light green 15-second count royal icing and a decorating tip 2. Use the scriber needle or toothpick to help shape the icing. Allow the icing to dry about 1 hour.

Step 13

Use the scriber needle or toothpick to add small elongated dots of dark pink, dark blue and yellow 15-second count royal icing to the wreath.

Step 14

Pipe dots of dark pink, dark blue and yellow 15-second count royal icing with a decorating tip 2 on the edges of the house.

Step 15

Add snow to the trees and the bottom edge of the house white 15-second count royal icing and a decorating tip 2.

Step 16

Ice the small round cookie with white 15-second count royal icing and a decorating tip 2. Add 5 sections of dark pink 15-second count royal icing with a decorating tip 2. Use the scriber needle or tooth pick to swirl the colors.
