Mashed Brown Butter Sweet Potatoes
Looking for an alternative to traditional mashed potatoes? These sweet potatoes mixed with nutty brown butter, maple syrup and nutmeg have incredible flavor and make a wonderful side dish for Thanksgiving or any meal.

Ingredients
- 4 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
- 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) salted butter
- 3/4 cup milk or cream
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
Instructions
Step 1
Add chopped sweet potatoes to a large pot of salted cold water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes or until potatoes are just fork tender.Step 2
While potatoes are cooking, add butter to a medium saucepan. Set over medium low heat and cook until butter is browned, stirring often. Remove from heat.Step 3
Drain potatoes and return to pot. Add browned butter, milk or cream, maple syrup, salt, and nutmeg.Step 4
Use a vegetable masher or electric mixer to beat until smooth.Step 5
