Mashed Brown Butter Sweet Potatoes
Looking for an alternative to traditional mashed potatoes? These sweet potatoes mixed with nutty brown butter, maple syrup and nutmeg have incredible flavor and make a wonderful side dish for Thanksgiving or any meal.

- 4 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
- 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) salted butter
- 3/4 cup milk or cream
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
Step 1Add chopped sweet potatoes to a large pot of salted cold water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes or until potatoes are just fork tender.
Step 2While potatoes are cooking, add butter to a medium saucepan. Set over medium low heat and cook until butter is browned, stirring often. Remove from heat.
Step 3Drain potatoes and return to pot. Add browned butter, milk or cream, maple syrup, salt, and nutmeg.
Step 4Use a vegetable masher or electric mixer to beat until smooth.
Step 5Serve immediately.
