This is a fun salty-sweet treat to serve at Halloween parties and it takes very little time to make. Munchable pretzels, cereal squares and pecans are tossed with melted butter and coated in a brown sugar spice mix. Candy corn and funny mini monsters give the mix a sweet bite and make it festive. The candy melting wafers and eyeballs used to make the monsters can be found at most craft stores in the baking aisle and online. Monster munch looks nice served in bowls or on one large serving platter, but you can also portion the mix in cellophane bags with a candy monster or two inside. Hand the bags out to mini specters when they arrive at your front door.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces candy wafers in assorted colors
  • 2 ounces (2 packages) candy eyeballs
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 4 cups oven toasted rice or corn cereal
  • 2 cups mini pretzel twists
  • 1 cup pecan halves
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup candy corn

Instructions

Step 1

Cover large baking sheet with parchment paper. Melt assorted colors of candy wafers in separate bowls in microwave at 30 second intervals until they can be stirred smooth. Use spoon to drop nickel-sized dollops of candy, well-spaced, onto parchment. Pull toothpick through edges of candy and rap pan on work surface to flatten candy slightly. Add candy eyeballs and let stand until set, about 10 minutes.

Step 2

Preheat oven to 425°F.

Step 3

Combine brown sugar and pumpkin pie spice in small bowl; set aside. Combine cereal, pretzels and pecans in large bowl. Heat butter in small microwave-safe bowl on high about 30 seconds until melted.

Step 4

Pour butter mixture onto cereal mixture and toss with your hands to coat; sprinkle sugar mixture over and stir well.

Step 5

Pour mixture onto large baking sheet and bake until fragrant, about 6 minutes. Stir mixture once halfway through baking.

Step 6

Let snack mix cool completely on pan. Stir in candy corn. Display snack mix in bowls or on large platter and arrange candy monsters on top of plated snack mix so they are most visible. Store snack mix in airtight container.
